The Truckee, Walker and Carson River systems provide fly anglers with both excellent and challenging stream fishing opportunities for 12 months out of the year.  The possibility of catching a large trout of 20”or more exists daily in these waters.  Smaller streams and creeks in the Sierra also provide great seasonal sport for the beginner as well as the seasoned angler looking for a new challenge.

The Reno Tahoe area has a wide variety of lakes and reservoirs within a short drive.  Larger bodies of water like Davis Lake, Frenchmens Reservoir, Stampede Reservoir and Eagle Lake as well as smaller impoundments such as Milton Reservoir and Spooner Lake, provide the boat, float tube and wade fisherman with many choices.

Pyramid Lake, just north of Reno at the terminus of the Truckee River, is a fly fishing experience that is like few others.  In the winter and spring, huge Lahontan Cutthroat Trout cruise the cold water shallows of this unique desert reservoir in search of food and in preparation for spawning.  Here the fly angler has a chance to land the trout of a lifetime as double digit cutts are not uncommon.  These are spectacular fish in an amazing environment.  Definitely a trip worth doing!

For those who look for other challenges “off the beaten path”, there are also exceptional fisheries for smallmouth bass and big carp available to the visiting angler.  These fish are a great diversion from trout fishing and can be the source of some fun and memorable days on the water.
